What factors contribute to dramatic runway photography? It all starts with the design. I have found myself not shooting at all during shows that leave me uninspired, but shooting a gigabyte’s worth of images at shows – such Ralph Rucci, DVF, and Custo Barcelona – with designs that dazzle! Atmospheric stage sets can also make for terrific runway photos, such as the snowy Central Park night scene that Badgley Mischka created for a show at NY Fashion Week. Light is another key factor. When the lights reflects just right, shimmering fabrics can look like liquid metal. And the moment a model wearing a sumptuous gown steps from the darkness into the spotlight can be breathtaking.
