Travel Writing

Evocative travel writing rooted in discovery, beauty, and a strong sense of place.

Travel writing allows us to preserve more than a route on a map. It captures atmosphere, wonder, and the emotional texture of a journey. My own travel writing grew out of a remarkable one-year, mother-daughter trip around the world while my daughter was in fifth grade. Over 12 months, we traveled across five continents and visited 19 countries, combining homeschooling with adventure, cultural immersion, and discovery.

On worldtraveldaughter.blog, I share stories from that journey, including travels through South America, India, Japan, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Fiji, Thailand, and Laos, with additional stories still to come.

I am especially drawn to travel writing that brings a place vividly to life through observation, reflection, and sensory detail. Pieces such as my article on a 4-day kayaking trip in Germany’s Mecklenburg Lake District reflect that more atmospheric and descriptive side of my work.

RE the more practical aspects of travel, my article for the Mount Holyoke Spring Quarterly provides tips on financing long-term travel.
